There is a bug with USB 3.0 that causes an BSOD during installation. Disable USB 3.0 to fix it.
When you install it in VMware Workstation 15.x, select an older VMware hardware compatibility, such as VMware 5.x.
Otherwise it setup can ask for CD/DVD drivers, while you have booted from the ISO.
Install drivers afterwards, for network, set your virtual device to an e1000.
